STEVEN STANTON

About Me.

Software Engineer

I have over 18 years of professional and 30 years of personal programming experience. I am a Husband, Father of 2 monsters... I mean lovely children... and technophile.

My journey started with programming in GWBasic on a Tandy1000, evolving through C++ in high school, to embracing web development technologies like PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in my early career.

I didn't jump right into Software Engineering after high school. I spent 5 years working security where I received my EMT License. I believe my time working for a private security company influenced my passion for a security first development focus.

From 2005 to 2015, I worked for myself as a consultant providing IT services. I worked for dozens of companies over that decade including Gurus2Go, Barrister, Tier3 Support, Accolade Support, Advance Health and many more. These responsibilities ranged from Help Desk services, WordPress plugin Development, and building websites and communication systems using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.

From 2015 - 2022 I worked for Smart Sales, a small furniture leasing company. Here I moved up to heading up their entire IT department. As a small company everyone wore many hates and my job was about 75% Software Engineering, 20% Management, and 5% Help Desk. I lead a small team of 3 other Engineers. I oversaw the company moving from more expensive dedicated servers at individual data centers which suffered from regular outages to AWS in multiple availability zones which increased reliability and decreased costs by over 60%. I also rebuilt the companies CRM, call center, and customer facing portals. I also designed and developed a browser based WebRTC system for remotely recording remote employees with recording and DVR like playback abilities.  I stayed with the company until they were forced to close due to changes in the industry post Covid.

In 2023 I began working for Call Potential, an amazing company in the self storage industry. Here I shifted to C# and DynamoDB using domain driven development to build a voice based AI agent that customers could talk to over the phone. This integrated much of my experience with audio transmuxing, web sockets, Twilio voice, and communications to help my team bring the project to life. As CallPotential was acquired by Storable in 2024 I shifted seamlessly into the Storable family.

Having a family and other responsibilities I don’t have the free time I used to for coding projects. Most have been archived while I put more focus on the family and other hobbies such as my drawing and writing. However, the few projects I am actively working on or maintaining are here.
